If you haven’t read The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann , I highly recommend you do so. Are you a Go-Getter or a Go-Giver? If you want to be an attractive marketer, it is time you make the switch from being a Go-Getter and become a Go-Giver.
Who is a Go-Getter? Simply put someone who goes out there to get from customers. Who is a Go-Giver? You guess right, someone who goes out there and gives to customers.
Why would you want to be a Go-Giver and not a Go-Getter? The Go-Giver answers that question for you as it takes you through the Joe’s Journey. Joe learns about the Laws of Stratospheric Success, which have giving at the heart of their philosophy.
You want to give because it is the only way you will succeed. But in doing so, you need guidance. We all know a lot of genuinely nice people who give a lot but remain poor all their life. If you are in business, I bet you don’t want to be poor. So in giving as a way of life and for success, you need to understand the Laws.
Are You a Go-Getter or a Go-Giver?
It all begins with value; You need to find a way to add value to other people’s life beyond the actual product you sell. One obvious but much neglected need is our need to feel valued and appreciated. Everyone carries a sign on their forehead that says “make me feel important.” Find a way to make you customers feel special and you will win their loyalty.
The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
But providing value is not enough to make you rich; your parents or at least someone you know made you feel important all your life but I bet that’s not what made them wealthy. Providing value is the starting point. To achieve great success, you need impact. You income is proportional to the number of people you serve. You want more success, serve more people.
The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
Changing your focus to add value the greatest number of people is a giant step in the right direction. But as a lone ranger, you are limited in the amount of people you can reach. You need to develop a network of “personal walking ambassadors.” These are people who are personally vested in seeing you succeed. There is only one reason why they would desire so much to see you succeed and yes it comes back to giving.
The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
As you build your network and focus on adding value to many people’s life, you will always wonder what sets you apart. Although it may be difficult for you to believe at first, the only thing that truly sets you apart is you, who you are. Focus on becoming the best person you can be and you will give to people something that no one else can.
The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
Finally, contrary to what most people believe, it is not better to give than receive. Just as it is impossible to breathe in without breathing out if we want to remain alive, true giving cannot happen without receiving. You must learn to receive; giving alone will not bring you success. In order to receive, you must learn to give. For that giving to continue, you must learn to receive.
The Law of Receptivity: the key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
